Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic and the second busiest in the Caribbean, with more than 11 million passengers in 2025. It is located in La Altagracia province, a short drive from the beaches and resorts of Bávaro, Cap Cana and Uvero Alto, and it is where most of our guests begin their holiday. How to get from Punta Cana Airport to your hotel
From the terminals you can reach your resort by taxi, shared shuttle, rental car or public bus. The safest, fastest and most comfortable option is to book a private transfer in advance: your driver is waiting for you, the price is fixed and there are no queues or negotiations after a long flight.

Meet your driver
Collect your luggage, go through customs and your driver will be waiting in the arrivals area with a sign with your name and our logo. The driver waits at least two hours after your arrival.

History of Punta Cana Airport
Punta Cana International Airport opened in December 1983, promoted by Grupo Puntacana, and is considered the first privately owned international airport in the world. It started as a modest airstrip serving the first hotels of the area and grew hand in hand with Dominican tourism.
Its terminals were designed by architect Oscar Imbert with open-air spaces and palm-thatched roofs, reflecting the Dominican tradition of outdoor living. A second runway of more than 3,000 metres opened in 2011, and Terminal B, with jet bridges, followed in 2014. In 2025 the airport handled more than 11 million passengers, a new record.
PUJ connects the Dominican Republic with dozens of airlines and more than 80 airports in 26 countries.
Terminals
Punta Cana Airport has two international terminals, A and B, plus the FBO / VIP terminal for private aviation. Terminals A and B are interconnected, within walking distance of each other, and a shuttle service links them.
Terminal A
Handles international flights with modern facilities: restaurants, shops, ATMs, currency exchange, Wi-Fi and a VIP lounge. Assistance is available for passengers with special needs or reduced mobility.

Terminal B
Opened in 2014 and equipped with boarding bridges, it also offers a wide range of services. Its VIP Lounge Club has an outdoor pool overlooking the runways.

FBO / VIP Terminal
Located west of the international terminal, it serves executive aviation: small aircraft, helicopters and private jets on international and domestic flights, with a more exclusive experience.

Duty-free shopping
Duty-Free Americas offers fragrances, spirits, tobacco and gifts, while Brisas del Caribe is ideal for local arts and crafts. You will also find stores such as Victoria’s Secret and Hard Rock.
Restaurants and cafés
From Dominican cuisine to international fare, there are plenty of options for a meal or a quick snack, and you can enjoy a drink at the airport’s Skybar.
VIP lounges
Comfortable seating, snacks and drinks. One lounge in Terminal B has a pool overlooking the runways. Check-in and check-out times must be requested in advance and depend on availability. More information on the official website.

Terminal A: check-in areas and waiting areas A1 and A2. Terminal B: check-in areas, food courts and boarding areas B1 and B2.
Nursing rooms and kids zone
Breastfeeding rooms: Terminal A, in front of the Duty-Free Americas exit, next to the transit area. Terminal B, in the food court near gates 27–33, next to Taco Bell.
Play areas: Terminal A, next to gate 1 and the waiting area by gate 9. Terminal B, next to gate 28 and inside the VIP lounge by gates 29–30.
Medical services and pharmacy
The airport has on-site medical services and a pharmacy to attend to any health-related concern.

Currency exchange services and banking facilities, including ATMs, are available for travellers.

Taxis and shuttles
Taxis and shared shuttles are available outside the terminals. They work for short trips but prices are not fixed and waits can be long when several flights land together.

Well-known rental companies operate inside the terminals, giving you the freedom to explore Punta Cana at your own pace.
Public transport
Buses near the airport are the cheapest way to reach different parts of Punta Cana, although they are slower and less convenient with luggage.

Tips for travelers
E-Ticket form
All passengers on commercial flights must complete the free Dominican Republic E-Ticket form before checking in for their flight. Check the official site for the latest entry requirements.

The tourist card (US$10) and the US$20 departure tax are normally included in your airline ticket. Check with your airline before you travel.
Language
Spanish is the official language, but many airport staff speak English. A few basic Spanish phrases always help.
